Equalities
In the global economy we all live in now, where we can travel to the ends of the earth
in a few hours in pursuit of safety, work and experience; it can sometimes seem that everything we know is changing before our very eyes. Well, now Valrec, the Valleys
Race and Equality Council, have started some very interesting projects to help people adjust.
For people arriving from non-English speaking countries we help them access
ESOL, English for Speakers of other Languages and for people who have always
lived here we offer multi-cultural cooking, One World Our World – a project aimed a
primary school children about how people live in other parts of the world thought
through the five senses, touch, smell, sight, sound and taste and other fun activities
aimed at breaking down the barriers between people. Or as sometimes people can awkward about what the correct way of addressing or treating someone from another culture we offer terminology courses.
We also act on behalf of all people who feel they have been discriminated against for reasons they can’t help, such as their ethnicity, gender, disability or sexuality.
