The 55 Club - Update
"Since moving to the new Community Centre the 55 Club has taken on a new lease
of life. At our fortnightly meetings we now have a luncheon club before meetings and a Bingo session at the end of meetings. We have also gained several new members with more likely to join. Summer outings are already being planned.
Last year, we arranged a sponsored walk in Parc Cwm Darran in aid of Help the Aged. Members and their families, friends (and dogs) did a walk around the lake and enjoyed free refreshments at the end. Altogether, we raised about £650. This year the event will be held towards the end of April and we hope to get even more people involved so that we can beat last year's total. All members of the 55 Club are affiliated to the National OAP Association of Wales. The Association is holding its Annual Conference and Rally in the Princess Royal Theatre,
Port Talbot on Wednesday June 4th. The main speaker will be Gwenda Thomas AM - Deputy Minister with responsibility for Older People. The Association President, Don Touhig MP will be there and the new Commissioner for Older People, Ruth Marks, has also been invited. Entertainment will be provided by the Pencoed Players who were extremely well-received the last time they came to the Rally. The 55 Club with other
local clubs will be organizing a coach to Port Talbot on the day so that members can
attend the event."
